This course has definitely planted seeds of inspiration in me! I will be adding so many of these ideas to my program. I started a journal with goals to help me add to my space. We’ll create signs with words, colors, pictures, lines of poetry and mindful sayings. I want to introduce curriculum kits and wonderful learning stations with stone paths that the children can decorate themselves. I love the idea of creating a labyrinth and having each child add to it before they leave.
Wonderful!! Music to my ears.
make all the flower observations with language element to talk about the planting process and document the learning in photographs
Outdoor learning is going to play a major part in how children learn and the teaching is done going forward. I like the quotation by Penny Whitehouse , “Don’t tell children about the world, show them.” I agree with this strongly because the more hands-on you get with experiences the more effective learning takes place. When people are able to internalize experiences they become a part of them and they are better able to relate to concepts being taught.
I like the idea of starting with one seed, one idea, one concept the importance is to get started. I know there will be challenges in getting back to the classroom, because of the various restraints, however, being outdoors provides a more healthy, effective and stimulating way to introduce concepts. Although learning automatically takes place outdoors, it is very important to have a more intentional way of teaching. This can be viewed as outdoor learning. Having signs and postings in the garden shows the life of the garden and gives a lead way for more relaxing and sensorial experiences to take place.
I really enjoyed the class and it helped me to be more structured, focused and intentional in planning and executing outdoor lessons for the future. It adds a new dimension to the way I conduct my outdoor learning experiences.
