Beekeeping Journal: Checking the Queen

It has been 4 days since we opened our hive and added the queen in her separate little cage. The hope is that the worker bees will eat through the “icing” and accept the Queen bee into the hive. With much anticipation, William (age 13) opened the hive and managed to find the queen cage empty. With hundreds of bees flying around, he calmly took the empty queen cage out and also managed to get the rubber band out. Very exciting!
