0-4: Set Goals for You and Your Summer Program

Set Goals for You & Your Summer Program

Setting objectives for your outdoor classroom and summer teaching practice is the main topic of this lesson. Specifically, we base our summer SMART goals on the transforming process that takes place within the four types of gardens in the summer.

Share your goals and reflections in our private Facebook group and our Q&A Calls so we can support you!

#1: Establishing specific objectives for your teaching practice and yourself is essential to helping you reach your intended result. Using your feelings, abilities, experiences, and skills, ask yourself if you think you will reach your goal(s) in four weeks.

#2: Establishing specific objectives for your SUMMER PROGRAM is also essential to enable us to assist you in reaching your intended result. Choose the type of garden you wish to concentrate on first:

Question: Do I wish to start a

  • A garden that produces food and feeds?
  • Create a pollinator garden and a wildlife-attracting garden?
  • Gardens as Outdoor Education Hubs?
  • Plant flowers and create gardens for beauty and art?

DO THIS: Answer the questions and determine your goals for your summer program. Write them in a journal and share your reflection in the private Facebook group. We will also share them during our LIVE Virtual Calls.

#3: Establishing S.M.A.R.T. Goals to help direct the goal-setting process. The words “specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely” are abbreviated as “SMART.”

  • SPECIFIC: In the Masterclass “Exploring Nature in Summer,” what specifically are you hoping to achieve?
  • MEASURABLE: How will you determine whether the objective has been met?
  • ACHIEVABLE: Can this objective be accomplished with enough work and dedication? Do you have the means to accomplish this? How will you obtain them if not?
  • RELEVANT: How does this objective relate to your winter program and outdoor classroom in cold weather?
  • TIMELY: When do you plan to accomplish this? Although this course lasts for four weeks, you are welcome to extend it to achieve your own objectives.
  • ACT NOW: Put your S.MA.R.T. goals in writing for the upcoming cold weather.
