From this workshop I want to create a butterfly garden, a dramatic play space and to a worm farm. I pick up worms from the ground and let the children dig in the mud. But many adults do not. Children should explore and enjoy the natural environment. We already have a mud kitchen in our outdoor space. But from this workshop you have given me more extension ideas to add to the program. I also think reading to children and adding literacy is very important to an outdoor space. Along with having a specific art area, a quiet area and music area. We have a music area for our infant and toddler outdoor space and they love exploring the items that have been added to a chain link fence. An interesting and informative workshop!!!! Thank-you, Carla Victoria Hackett July 12, 2020 Log in to Reply Fantastic!!! Can’t wait to see pictures! Sandra Olivieri May 7, 2020 Log in to Reply How impossible to choose only 3 take aways: 1: Using a rain barrel to collect water to use for plants 2: Upgrade the space where children naturally gather for some quiet time into a calming, peaceful, area using potted gardens as a kind of natural border. (I would also like to add a box like the take on leave one book box in order to leave books outside and keep them safe from the elements in that area) 3: I want to build a worm box! I would like to find more information on MIddle school outdoor classrooms. Do you have any suggestions for researching? GREAT course! Victoria Hackett May 7, 2020 Log in to Reply The STEAM Outdoors workshop on May 21 is geared for older children. Let me know what you are looking for and I can put it in that workshop.
