I am so excited to start on this journey of discovery! With COVID restrictions, this is the perfect time to create an outdoor space that is safe and healthy for our little ones!
Absolutely!!
HI! My name is Nicole. I am a preschool teacher at childcare center in Massachusetts. I grew up loving to explore the woods in my backyard and spent six happy summers working at a residential camp in Maine. I have always loved to be outdoors as much as possible personally and especially with children. Everything seems even more magical through their eyes and there are so many amazing opportunities for exploration and learning. My center currently has many wonderful turf and metal/plastic play structures and one nature area. The area has a lot of potential but not much has been done with it so far so I am excited to improve it!
Welcome! Please take pictures of your outdoor space as it evolves. What camp did you go to in Maine? My kids went to camp in Maine too.
Hi everyone! My name is Kathy Arky and I am from West Hartford, CT. I am a teacher at the Renbrook School, and independent day school that teaches age 3-eighth graders. I have taught at my school for 31 years and have always wanted to focus my teaching on being outside, as we have a beautiful campus with ponds, forests and trails. As we think about how we are going to teach in the fall differently due to Co-Vid, our school is very interested in learning more about the outdoor classroom. I am hoping to be able to learn how we can best utilize our outdoor spaces.
Hi! I’m thrilled you are here. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Hi, I’m Julie Lysher. I live just north of Duluth, MN. I am taking this course as I’d like to become more comfortable teaching in our beautiful school forest. What prompted me to take the plunge is the COVID-19 pandemic. I feel it is unnatural to be couped up in one room for an entire day. I want to figure out how I can work to implement the new science standards that will be required 2021-2022 and learn how I can design an outdoor classroom that still allows for me to teach the required curriculum. I could use some classroom management tips for the outdoors too. I have always loved bringing my students to the school forest, but I alwalys end up feeling overwhelmed with managing them. I’m excited to learn!
Welcome!! Thrilled you are here.
Hi! My name is Missy and I work for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program in central Texas. I am taking this class because our program provided technical and financial assistance for outdoor classrooms. I would like to learn a creative and structured approach for creating outdoor classrooms.
Welcome!
Hello my name is Michelle ,I am from East Bridgewater. I would like to make our outdoor paly space more engaging for the children.
Hello Michelle! I am thrilled that you are here. I hope you find some inspiration for your outdoor play space! Welcome!
Hello – My name is Julie Smith and I am a family childcare provider. I opened my program 18 years ago. My husband joined me 10 years ago as my full-time assistant. Although I am credentialed to teach in the public school, I love my mixed age group of 10. I know in my heart that children need more time to explore on their own, especially outdoors, to lay the foundation needed for the rigors of the public school kindergarten experience. So we do our part by getting them ready!
The past two years have been transforming our play space into an outdoor classroom. This year,it is my plan to use this e-class as a tool for establishing some garden spaces in our outdoor classroom.
Welcome Julie! I am thrilled you are here and can’t wait to learn more about your Outdoor Classroom story.
My name is Jaime Lamoureaux. I live in Fall River. The owner of my center is looking to build a new center. The center will have a big outdoor area which will allow us to create an outdoor classroom. I am looking for ideas to incorporate at the new center when it is complete.
Welcome Jaime!
Hi, my name is Abigail and I am the Executive Director of the Sharon Cooperative School in Sharon MA. Opening a nature preschool has been my dream for several years and I am now reading, learning, and collecting resources in preparation. Our current school is a more typical school and has a playground only as outdoor space. This new school will be very different and very exciting!
Hello and welcome! I am thrilled that you are here. It warms my heart that you are opening a nature preschool. We need more of them! I am thrilled to be part of your journey. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Looking forward to learning more about your ideas and vision.
