Outdoor Snow Forts at Brookwood School

We have OC every Friday afternoon. The topics and activities range from studying migration, exploring our campus woods, pond, and grounds in general to making mud bricks, snow forts, petting zoos (see picture), and maintaining our Butterfly Garden and official Monarch Waystation with Monarch Watch.

Last Friday we took advantage of the snowstorms and built snow forts. There was not a lot of direction from teachers other than providing tools and saying: “We are building snow forts today. Let’s go!” From there the kids grouped themselves and using shovels, buckets, and hands made igloos, “smoothy and ice-cream shop,” chairs, and a petting zoo for Elliot our classroom bunny for the past 4 years.
